Eco Youths Network in Germany🤞 This week, on Thursday, 17th Sept 2026... Ethan Timothy will be in Germany at the University of Hohenheim  ( @unihohenheim@xn--baw-joa.social ) in Stuttgart Ethan has been invited to speak with students and researchers at the Institute of Biology about the work we are doing in Uganda around how youths involve in sustainable farming, permaculture, climate change and nature conservation. This is also an opportunity for us to discuss potential Citizen Science collaborations between the Eco Youths Network Uganda & University of Hohenheim Germany We requested the seminar to be recorded, we'll be sharing how it went, see you on Wednesday #EcoYouthsNetwork #Uganda #Germany #UniversityOfHohenheim #CitizenScience #ClimateAction #Permaculture #SustainableAgriculture #Ecology

#ClimateChange impacts the word we live in, but what is its impact on our mental wellbeing? To answer this question, we'd like to create a participatory observatory on climate change and #MentalHeath, using a #CitizenScience approach. Yeah, this may sound a little abstract, and you may also be wondering who "we" are... We’ll explain everything, but here’s a little spoiler: to this project cannot happen without your help. if we’ve piqued your curiosity, follow us and stay tuned #introduction

🦌🦥🐴🐘🐪 For #FossilFriday — Megaloceros giganteus, the Irish elk, which I was able to visit in June. Specimen USNM 7051 is masterfully mounted at the Smithsonian’s National Museum of Natural History. The mount features a massive steel armature to support its nearly 3.4–3.6 meter antler spread. Studies show Megaloceros dropped and regrew its antlers each year. . . #pleistocene #megalocerosgiganteus #paleontology #iceage #giantdeer #citizenscience Skull mount photos credit: NMNH/Loren Ybarrondo

Today I did my monthly biodiversity survey by bike along the Summit Road of the Port Hills of Ōtautahi-Christchurch, NZ. And, along it I found the first ever Canterbury record, and second South Island record, of the toatoa bud gall mite, *Aceria victoriae*. 😀 These native mites make distinctive galls on the NZ native plant, toatoa (*Haloragis erecta*). Yet, after they were described as a species from specimens collected in Wellington in 1956/57, nobody recorded them. That is, until Nicholas Martin found them in Auckland in 2012. Nicholas Martin put out the call for entomologists to look for them, yet only a few more were found, and all in Auckland. I looked and couldn't find them around Christchurch. Then, last year, Lisa Bennett on #iNaturalist found them in Wellington and Joseph Knight found them on Otago Peninsula. Inspired by their finds, I was looking carefully for them today and found one plant with the galls. It's a mystery why they've been so cryptic as their host plant is common. I think it underscores how little we still know about the little creatures that live in NZ with us. https://www.inaturalist.nz/projects/hunt-for-the-toatoa-bud-gall-mite #NZ #NaturalHistory #entomology #mites #discovery #CitizenScience

#CitizenScience #GWZO #Leipzig #Forschungsquartett

Peatlands cover barely 3% of the Earth's surface. They store twice as much carbon as all the world's forests combined. And in a Danish national park, the thing saving them isn't a summit — it's a QR code in the mud. A visitor walks the bog, scans it, uploads what they see. Ordinary people with phones becoming the eyes the science couldn't afford. The land remembers who tended it. What patch of ground have you decided is yours to watch? #ClimateAction #CitizenScience #Nature #Rewilding #Peatland #Conservation #Solarpunk #EarthCare #Photography #News #Hope #Community

► Infos, Video-Anleitung & Tool-Zugang: https://www.slubdd.de/blueher #SLUBDresden #CitizenScience #OpenScience #Kulinarik

To distinguish between "normal" and anomalous surface temperatures in Calgary in 2025, I applied Tukey’s method. The statistical distribution shows a negative skewness (coefficient ≈−0.59). This highlights a critical phenomenon: the vast majority of the urban area is densely clustered in the warmer temperature range. In contrast, cool refuges (the rivers, reservoir, and dense parks) are statistically scarce, forming a long "tail" on the left side of the plot. In essence, Calgary’s baseline is shifted toward higher temperatures, making Urban Cool Islands a rare and vital resource. I would like to remind my readers and followers that I am currently preparing a comprehensive article based on these research results. In it, I will explore the ecological and geochemical implications of this thermal distribution. Stay tuned for further updates! #YYC #Calgary #ClimateResilience #UrbanHeatIsland #DataAnalytics #RemoteSensing #Landsat #OpenData #CitizenScience #LST #ClimateOfCalgary #Landsat #Rstats
