The Minnesota PUC recently accepted comments on the state's very first natural gas integrated resource plan. Xcel Energy filed the first one, and comments rolled in end of last week. This one from the City of St Paul provides a few focused critiques and interesting updates on the City's efforts. #Energy #NaturalGas #Electrification

Compared to other major developed economies, Australia has the highest per capita emissions of any nation. While roughly 75% of Australia’s electricity consumption is driven by the industrial and commercial sectors, residential energy efficiency still offers a massive opportunity for emissions reduction.

KCLU: What’s in your home’s air? Researchers could pay you to find out "...An environmental research project is looking for residents in the Tri-counties to take part and you could be paid $500. Could swapping out your gas appliances make your home healthier? That’s the question researchers want to answer...." https://www.kclu.org/2026-08-12/whats-in-your-homes-air-researchers-could-pay-you-to-find-out #electrification #health #climate #VenturaCounty #SanLuisObispo #SantaBarbaraCounty

Researchers used electric stoves to treat asthma. It worked. "Led by Dr. Ash Sehgal, a professor at Case Western’s School of Medicine, researchers recruited families from across the Cleveland and Akron areas where at least one person had asthma. Using funds from the Biden-era Inflation Reduction Act, they replaced gas stoves with electric induction stoves in 91 homes. And then they did something unprecedented: They studied whether people got less sick after they stopped cooking with gas. It was the first time time scientists had replaced gas ranges with electric ranges and examined the health impacts. Induction stove, week 2

  1. Family is very happy with the switch!
  2. Air quality improvement in the house is dramatic. Especially CO2 readings.
  3. Stove is a LOT cleaner amd easier to clean. Magnitudes easier then the prior gas range.
  4. Heat shielding on oven is far, far better than the old oven. Does not heat up the house like the old oven, which was noticeably adding heat to the house when on.
  5. Manual controls with knobs on this particular model is great! No touch screen required for the cooktop.
  6. Heat level control is absolutely stellar on this model. Everyone here is very happy about that (was a concern vs. gas)

all tuckered out now. three 'gentlemen callers' here in the last three weeks including just minutes ago. flutter flutter. need a bex & a good lie down now 😳 in coming weeks there'll be two intense long days with five or six g/c here 😱 but if all goes well, & the mighty prophet zarquon is kind, i'll then be 2/3 de-gassed [by appliance] & ~90+% de-gassed [by actual consumption] 🤞 #heatpumps #dropbearelectrification #climatecrisis #electrification

3🧵 There is also considerable #disparity —both in current & projected health burden of road transport-related pollution — which affects lower-income more than higher-income countries. "The health burden of road transport pollution is distributed unequally, with low-income countries bearing a disproportionate and growing share..." #health #PublicHealth #IncomeDisparity #emissions #VehicleEmissions #environment #pollution #EVs #electrification

"Under current policies, high-income countries are projected to see a 48% decline in road transport-attributable premature deaths by 2050, while...lower-middle-income countries face increases of more than 200%."😳 BUT - "An accelerated transition to electrification could substantially narrow this disparity." 4🧵🧐 /end #health #PublicHealth #emissions #disparity #IncomeDisparity #VehicleEmissions #environment #pollution #EVs #electrification --

"Emissions from road transport lead to 1 premature death every 45 seconds and trigger a new childhood asthma case every 2 minutes..." And "without an accelerated transition to electric vehicles the death toll will increase 74% by 2050" 😳 BUT "with ambitious vehicle #electrification, premature deaths can be cut by 63% and childhood asthma cases by 80%, preventing 8.8 million premature deaths between now and 2050." #health #PublicHealth #VehicleEmissions #EVs --

If further proof is needed (for those diehard who still believe the far-right SMR dream) #JohnQuiggin has reviewed the nuclear powerplant playing field to deliver his prognosis:

“Looking at the world as a whole, the first half of 2026 has seen

  • two (2) new reactors connected to the grid, both in China
  • three (3) construction projects reaching first nuclear concrete, all in China
  • zero (0) new final investment decisions outside China
  • one (1) new/revised export contract, probably just symbolic, between Rosatom and Uzbekistan

Generously assuming a 4:1 capacity ratio, the two new reactors would be equivalent to around 8 GW of firmed solar. That’s what China installs every week or so, and the world as a whole every four or five days.

In summary, nuclear power isn’t a vital source of energy, obstructed by politics. Outside China, it’s a zombie, animated by political imperatives. In China, it’s an afterthought, running far behind solar and wind, as well as (regrettably) new coal and gas, and about level with new hydro.”

Sit tight folks, #Renewables are winning the fight — if not fast enough for comfort — and will continue to do so until we beat the #FossilFuel and #NuclearPowerGeneration industries.
