Hello. This is the account for Mise, a privacy focused browser I have been building, mostly for my own daily use. It has workspace isolation, a built in ad blocker, tab hibernation, split view, a PDF reader, dark mode, and a userscript engine among other things. Close to a 1.0 release now. Happy to answer questions, and always interested in which sites trip the fingerprint protections if anyone runs into that. https://rakosn1cek.github.io/Mise-browser/ #Introduction #FOSS #OpenSource #Privacy #Electron #Linux

I want to build a Tiling window #browser that is very similar to: https://github.com/szymonkaliski/cartographist On top of it, I need to add certain features. My question is: Is there any way I can avoid #Electron in order to build this that is cross-platform? As far as my research goes Tauri with #Rust and Wails with #Golang seems to accept only one WebView per window. I think GTK as well. For now, I know Golang and C. I'd like to stick to this as much as possible. I need to start somewhere, but I don't know what are the options that I have. Thanks. #askfedi #programming

🇫🇷 Un petit bug with a big impact.

A vulnerability reported by Doyensec's French team members in Electron's shell.openPath() has now been patched. Apps relying on string-only path validation could be tricked into opening a different file via an embedded null byte.

Merci to the Electron maintainers for the quick fix.

Have you ever seen electrons? Watch this! I got an old Narva BR-2 cathode ray tube (Braun'sche Röhre) that was made for educational purposes. It has some Neon gas inside that makes the electron beam visible. The second tube in this video is a voltage regulator OD3A that also "glows" nicely. #electron #CRT #cathoderaytube #electronics #physics #science

In all other news I'm looking at switching to #KleverNote over from #Joplin for Markdown-based #notes simply because it may be lighter on system resources. I am aware that Joplin is #Electron-based, and unfortunately, Electron-based apps are not the best when it comes to resource usage. At least, doing a quick RAM usage test between the two shows that KleverNote, in my test case, used almost half of the RAM Joplin used, but that was just looking at System Monitor's memory usage for the two. Maybe it's because I didn't have as many notes as compared to Joplin, but unless there's something huge going on, I doubt that KleverNote would use the same amount of memory Joplin does when it has the same notes. Anyways, we'll see how it works out! 😄
