The global surface air temperature is currently hotter than it has ever been this time of the year in recorded history. The global average was 2.11 degrees Celsius higher than it was the same day in 1940 on November 4th 2026, and it was 1.46 degrees higher than it was in 1980. That's a huge temperature change in the blink of an eye. Global warming is real, and the rate our planet is warming at is accelerating.
Our oceans are also heating up, and they too are heating at an accelerating rate. We have seen new sea surface temperature records daily since June 2026. The global sea surface temperature was slightly more than one degree Celsius higher than it was in 1980 on November 4th 2026 and it was more than half a degree higher than 2020. One cubic meter of water holds four thousand times more energy than a cubic feet of air so that is a huge and highly significant increase in a tiny geological timeframe.
El Nino is a weather pattern where unusually warm ocean conditions form along the tropical west coast of South America. This pattern repeats every few years. This year is a El Nino year and this years El Nino is many magnitudes warmer than it has been at any point in recorded history. The weather will be more extreme all over the globe in the coming months due to this pattern. Many will need to consider if they need to evacuate.
Two centuries of unchecked ever-increasing fossil fuel consumption with resulting greenhouse gas pollution is catching up with us. We have changed the earth's atmosphere and our planets energy imbalance and the increasing temperatures we are seeing are a result of that imbalance over time. It will get hotter and hotter as time goes on, and the rate our planet is warming at is accelerating.
There is no fix, there is no way we can remove the greenhouse gasses we have already released from the atmosphere and they are not going away on their own in any timeframe that matters. This is a very unfortunate predicament. We absolutely can avoid making this predicament worse, but that is not what the vast majority of people are doing. Most people choose to accelerate the rapid global warming we have caused by driving a car.
Please take personal responsibility for the consequences of your own actions and don't drive a car, and don't buy anything you do not strictly need. All forms of human consumption causes additional damage to a biosphere now in rapid unstoppable collapse. You can and should make a difference.

Oceans and their marine food web are in jeopardy. Warming, acidifying seas. Overharvested fish and krill. Bottom trawling flattening the seabed. Plastics in the water, the salt and us. Humans caused it. Humans can end it.

A key Southern Ocean water layer has turned saltier, denser and deeper since 2016 as Antarctic meltwater input fell, research suggests, with possible implications for ocean carbon storage, deep-ocean heat and global currents.

PRESS RELEASE: Activists aboard the Greenpeace ship Arctic Sunrise have placed giant boulders to block bottom trawling across 116 km² of the Southern North Sea Marine Protected Area.
The UK government must ban destructive fishing in ALL protected waters.

Another oil spill, this time off Umm Al Quwain in the UAE.
How long will marine life and coastal communities keep paying for our dependence on oil?
Governments must get moving on renewables.
Protect the Gulf’s waters and the people who depend on them.

The current rate of progress will take 265 YEARS to fully protect 30% of the ocean.
The deadline is 2030, not 2291.
Governments must stop letting industrial fishing fleets plunder our ocean for profit. Deliver real ocean sanctuaries NOW.

Satellite data reveal massive scale of routine #oil pollution in #oceans. See the map 🚨
Oil slicks from ships and offshore oil platforms cover nearly 1.6 million square kilometers (618,000 square miles) of the ocean surface each year, an area slightly larger than the nation of Mongolia.

🚨 OCEAN HEAT: Last year, our seas absorbed heat equal to almost 40 TIMES all energy humanity used.
With 84% of global coral reefs struck by bleaching-level heat stress, fossil fuel corporations and industrial meat and dairy are cooking our living ocean for profit.
Protect our oceans NOW.

As if our oceans aren't already facing record heat, plastic waste, and industrial exploitation… now governments and arms dealers want to turn the seabed into the next battlefield.
The ocean is a living ecosystem that sustains all life, not a playground for war and corporate profit.

10/ 2. The "Olive Oil" Cell Membranes
At 5 kilometers deep, the ocean is not only heavy but freezing cold. Under those conditions, the fats in normal animal cell membranes would pack tightly together and turn solid, like a stick of butter left in the fridge. To prevent their cells from turning into stiff, brittle walls that would easily rupture, deep-sea creatures build their cell membranes with massive amounts of unsaturated fatty acids.

The ocean isn’t just overheating, it’s LOSING ITS BREATH.
Scientists say global waters have already lost around 2% of their oxygen, pushing marine life towards an “unsafe space” with potentially irreversible impacts.
Protect the oceans, stop new oil and gas.
