Sanremo → Roma Termini I said bye to West Liguria, where I will be coming back for Christmas, and I started by journey towards Napoli. I took Intercity 505 early in the morning. It was a chaotic ride until Genova Brignole, because there were many classes of screaming kids going to Festival della Scienza, then it was quite pleasant! The train was very late, I managed to get the coincidence probably only because the following one was a bit late, too. #TencoTecnoTrip #Sanremo #Roma #Interrail #train #Träwelling #NowTräwelling #Träwelldroid

Rotterdam Centraal → Bruxelles Midi I wanted to avoid Eurostar (more on it in the booking log). Therefore, I am splitting the trip between Rotterdam and Paris in two legs. I am on SNCB’s EuroCity 9228. It is crazy how people are encouraged to use Eurostar and spend a crazy amount of money for its awful service, just because other options do not appear unless you intentionally look for them. No sign of ECC 9228 on the NS app nor in the DB app. I was about to panic, but I saw it on the station’s board. I would *love* to, but due to ableism in the cycling and transit world, even when something provides for cycles, it usually only provides for abled upright cycle riders. Hanging racks, rack with spacing that only fits upright bicycles, inability to roll it the whole way there, etc. This point was included in my talk at the 2022 CalBike Summit. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3fV-3d-J7pw&t=99s I'd love to take my trike on the trains in Europe, but even though it has some ability to fold, I cannot do it as fast nor lift it through a train door with steps unassisted, etc. So I'm stuck. As there's now a good, almost direct, train connection between Lagos in Portugal and Kemi in Finland I'm wondering about the finances of owning a house in each place and migrating with the seasons. 39k euro in Kemi gets you a lovely well maintained house from the mid 1990s. 120k euro near (!) Lagos gets you a block of half-painted concrete with holes on all six sides (yes, that includes the roof and shared wall with the neighbours). I would seriously enjoy watching this movie btw. It can become a proper feel good story about two young people on a shared (connected digitally, then physically) adventure. And by traveling by train it can also be a very #european story. Traveling by train also makes for an excellent opportunity to show lots of relatable human interaction on the way, both on trains and in the places along the way. Anyway.
